Filling with Oil

To keep your engine nice and clean, don't risk spilling oil when topping up. Get an old plastic bottle of some sort and cut the top off to make a good funnel.

Remove the oil filler cap and sit the funnel in place, make sure it isn't too wobbly else it might tip and make a mess - which is exactly what we are trying to avoid.

Carefully pour in 5 litres of new oil, it doesn't seem to matter much what brand (see www.planetsoarer.com for oil test results), it's more important that you change the oil and filter often.

Remove and wipe the oil dipstick, then replace it and remove it again. The level should be between the Low and Full line. Don't over fill it.  Replace the dipstick and filler cap, then start the engine and let it idle to normal running temperature.  Turn the engine off and wait a couple of minutes for the oil to settle then check the level again.  It might have dropped a bit due to the new filter getting filled.

Some people have different ideas as to how much oil you need, I have always found it takes more than 5 litres, close to 6 litres in fact to have it at the full mark, use the dipstick to get it right for your car.

Tip the old oil from the catch tray into your now empty oil container and dispose of properly, don't just tip it into the street drain!

Don't forget, do this full procedure religiously every 5,000 Km to prolong the life of the engine.
